Summary of an Investigation at Camelot Castle -
Friday 13th October 2006

With its towering cliffs and wild seas and infamous legends of King Arthur; Tintagel has always been a dramatic place, enjoyed by many. Camelot Castle Hotel set almost right on the edge of the cliffs of Tintagel has had many visitors; ranging from the famous to tourists and most will tell you that they believe that the energy at the hotel is unique.

Over the years staff and visitors have witnessed many strange occurrences that they just could not explain rationally. The most well attested sighting is that of a ghostly male figure being spotted on numerous occasions. This is believed to be that of the former electrician of Castle Camelot and people have witnessed this figure making his way down from the hotel to his home below, now Kate Winslet's house, and many say that the figure simply disappears!

We all had been waiting with great anticipation ever since we last visited this interesting location in the hope that the night ahead would reveal as much activity as was the case during the Paranormal Research Organisations visit.

As it happened… following on from the Paranormal Research Organisation investigation in January this year, we encountered quite a lot of similar phenomenon with an almost entirely new team comprised of guests from Haunting Experiences - they did not have any details of what had been previously reported. This makes the findings even more interesting.

We arrived at the hotel ready for the investigation at approx 8pm where we all enjoyed a wonderful three-course meal to set us up for the night ahead. After the introductions everyone was split up into groups so that we all investigated each area on a rotating basis with different team leaders comprised from Ian, Stuart, Will and Kevin. This helped to keep our findings to our separate teams so that cross contamination of evidence gathered was kept low. This in turn kept auto-suggestiveness to a minimum.

What follows is a summary of the main findings in each area.

Ground Floor (Bar areas and Reception Hall)

One team found this area to be relatively quiet, though plenty of light anomalies were caught on camcorder appearing in co-ordination with dowsing results. These were particularly noticeable around one of the columns. They also witnessed the Negative Ion Detector being set off for no apparent reason. This is worth noting, as it is extremely rare to get any readings during investigations from this particular piece of equipment.

One of the ladies from the group picked up on a small brown dog who had been stood by Ian during the introduction talks and very soon afterwards another female commented on smelling wet dog. Both comments were made independently and both ladies had been unaware of the other's comments.

A male member also dowsed and picked up on a presence by the fireplace the rods answered to animal, once again this indicated to a dog. So in all 3 separate people all picked up on this small dog - very interesting.

The presence of a male was picked up by another female group member through dowsing, and she discovered that he had passed aged 53 in the18th century. The initial of his name given was G and he had apparently worked on the land and died from an accident whilst he was carrying out his work.

A couple of light anomalies were also picked up through filming in night vision in the top left hand corner of the ballroom.

Through dowsing it was confirmed that the top left hand corner of this room was the most active in this area.

During a vigil in the ballroom a lot of unexplained phenomenon was reported by a lot of our guests, cold spots and draughts were felt where no natural cause was seemingly responsible. This was backed up by digital thermometer readings. Strange anomalies were caught on both night vision and digital cameras, and also in one particular area, where one lady had been dowsing, she reported the feeling as if something was behind her and felt as if unseen hands had touched her. When asked about the information she had gathered using dowsing rods we were amazed that what she had picked up had been picked up previously during a P.R.O investigation, the similarity in detail was almost shocking. Further to this other groups coming here later all seemed drawn to this area without any prior knowledge of it, very interesting indeed.

Another person from the group picked up on a female presence (Catherine) sat at the piano, wearing a brown dress lacy ribbon, and playing the piano. At the same time a cold icy spot was felt in what was otherwise a naturally warm room.

Glass divining and a séance were also conducted here with some very interesting results, which included sounds of something tapping, photo and video anomalies and again a very distinctive icy cold draught.

3 other different presences were identified here during the glass divination:
Mother- Emma Pike
Son- Crispen Pike
Former owner, strong results.

One group comprising of PRO investigators, the majority local to Tintagel, tried a table tipping experiment. It is difficult to comment to the authenticity of this as we were not involved in the experiment, although we naturally have no reason to doubt those participating as they are all personally known to us. What we did see was the table move a foot or so apparently under its own steam, or from an unseen power. We also understand that other groups had similar results in here. We must say that table tipping and similar experiments such as glass divination and the Ouija Board, can certainly to a degree be explained by involuntary muscle movements enhanced by the fear, tension and apprehension felt by participants. We would also like to add that Ouija Board experiments are not conducted by Haunting Experiences.

Room 201

There were some very interesting orbs appearing to emanate from the back of one female guest whilst dowsing in here. This was also apparent when she was dowsing in another bedroom.

Another female member of the team carried out dowsing, the rods gave a lot of positive movement around the fireplace and a female presence was picked up next to fireplace, the presence did not die here but is apparently aware she has passed over. She had been a servant and was connected to the land, not the present building, she had lived locally. The female presence had apparently been murdered, she knew her killer. Her name was Georgina and she had been younger than 20 when she had been killed by her father, he had killed her because she had a child out of wedlock. The female presence was looking for her child that was the reason why she comes in visitation.

Also a few light anomalies had been captured on night vision during this time.
The female member of the group who carried out dowsing also felt very emotional whilst communicating with the female presence.

2 male presences were also picked up through dowsing in this room.

Male 1:
Passed in 1874 aged 30 years old.
Connected to land and was grounded.
Cause of death Cholera.
He is also aware of the female presence Georgina.

Male 2:
Passed in 1765 aged 43 years old.
Cause of death was an accident, he drowned and was a fisherman.
He had lived locally; he sold his fish etc to the village when he was alive.
He comes in visitation and moves throughout the whole building.

Room 212.

Other areas where also investigated namely bedrooms, while most felt very quiet one room was a location for some astonishing anomalies on night vision camera as this coincided with questions asked to a female presence when one young lady was dowsing and this happened throughout the vigil.

The female presence was Bea, a foreign lady who was married with 5 children. She didn't work here, but had a heart attack and died in this room in 1911.

However, the most interesting things occurred in here with the first group, under Ian's supervision.

According to more than one laser thermometer the temperature steadily dropped by 6-7 degrees over a very short space of time. Also we kept hearing noises in here like something banging on the window. Admittedly it was a windy night but it seemed to be different to normal wind patterns.

A lady did some dowsing in here and identified a married couple. The information she had discovered was very close to information picked up about a couple on PRO's visit.

Room 220

This has Camelot's four poster bed and for some proved to be the most active area of the hotel, both during initial sessions and for investigators who later returned during the period of free time in the early hours. Interestingly this room's neighbour, Room 221 (which we did not have access to this time) was found to be the most active during the P.R.O. investigation.

There were several light anomalies caught in here, both on camera and camcorder, however it was the audio and visual encounters which were of most interest. A little while into one session, one guest (stood in front of the side aspect window) reported hearing a double tap on the glass, strange, as we were way off the ground level. We did try to recreate this by rattling the window frame, however he was adamant that this was not what he had heard. Interestingly this window was, more or less, in line with the "metal on metal" banging sound heard outside by Kevin Hynes and Stuart on P.R.O's visit. At one point nearly the whole group heard a bang accompanied by a 'Ting' sound as if someone had knocked into something and hit one of the two light shades fitted into the headboard of the bed. This was clearly not the case as Stuart had been videoing this area using night shot; no one had been anywhere near the area where the sound was heard. So what had been dismissed at first as being a guest stumbling in the dark, was clearly something else!

Perhaps most intriguing of all, was when a dark figure was witnessed out of the window moving across the stone circle at the rear of the hotel. Without prior knowledge it seems as if someone else had seen the figure witnessed by so many, presumed to be the former electrician of the hotel making his way down towards his house at the bottom of the hill. Definitely not a path to be walking alone in the middle of the night due to its rough condition and the severity of gradient, and we are pretty confident this was not just somebody taking a walk. What was described was exactly as Will Brunning reported from last time, a dark figure moving across the stone circle from right to left (facing the sea), which then disappeared in clear view!

In a later group 4 presences were picked up through dowsing: 2 males and 2 females presences.

Male 1:
Very active presence who is aware that he has passed and is grounded.
Cause of death; he had hung himself in this room in 1945.
His name was Louis.

Female 1:
Grounded and not aware she had passed so we left her alone.

Female 2:
Aware she has passed, died from natural causes.
Happy with us being there and she is not aware of any other presences.
She is also grounded.

During time spent in this room by the later group, tapping was also heard from the corner left of the fireplace, we ruled out this being a draught as this only occurred on certain occasions, mainly whilst the group called out for a sign.

Photography:
Two photos were taken on still camera one directly after the other.
The first photo appeared to show a light anomaly, whereas the second showed nothing.

Also possible orbs had been captured on night vision camera.

In the final free time session, after ensuring that the various groups of guests were suitably positioned in their chosen areas and had tapes and batteries etc. Stuart and Kevin made their way back up to Room 220 to join other colleagues who had already begun a darkness vigil. The group used various pieces of equipment to try and record any paranormal activity during time spent in this room. At this point they began openly discussing findings and feelings, it was soon clear that we had experienced a number of similarities. Giddy and dizzy feelings in front of the window were picked up by three of us, as was a choking sensation reported from two separate groups. The dowsing information we picked up shed some light on this and suggests a possible explanation. A male presence was identified as 'Louis' who on returning form action in World War II hung himself in this room, as he was unable to deal with the sights he had witnessed and the loss of his friends. Although posttraumatic stress disorder is a common enough tragedy following times of war, we have as yet, been unable to verify this information to be historically accurate. Further dowsing produced erratic results with the rods swinging back and forth very strongly, both whilst searching and resting, with the rods dropped. Once again all 4 presences were picked up through dowsing. Another also joined us: a negative presence, which tried to latch on to Stuart. However, The male presence Louis seemed to be the most active, so the group concentrated mainly on him. We asked him to give us signs, anything he could do to provide real evidence that we were not alone in room 220. Throughout our session we all experienced sensations of tingling from head to toe, also Stuart and Dave both felt completely drained at one point.

A vortex was also picked up in this room through dowsing; once again this was situated to the left hand side of the fireplace.

We all experienced some fascinating results whilst dowsing, the rods seemed to be tracking the presence of Louis as he circled around the room at some pace, then the rods would just stop and point in the direction of the door. We took this as a sign that Louis did not want us here and was showing us the door.

Through dowsing more information on Louis was gathered, we found that he had fought in the 2nd world war and lost many friends and colleges during this time. He came to this place to end his life as he felt he could not go on. Various light The only definite result we were able to get was a continual pointing towards the door, as if being asked to leave…

Room 220, an orb caught in front of the door (also enlarged). The bed where the 'Ching' sound believed to be the light shade being flicked and the window tapping was heard on, are both to the right. This picture kindly provided by two of our guests, Michelle and Ben Harwood was the most compelling of anomalies caught in this room and has been analysed by the PRO Photographic Analyst, Graham Billing, who comments below: "I've had a good look at the pictures you forwarded to me and to be perfectly honest, most of the anomalies present are simply down to dust. However on this image, the blue orb-like anomaly is interesting. There is no doubt that it is on the image base. As for what it is, I have no idea."

GROUNDS

To finish the night off Stuart took a small group around the grounds of the hotel, pointing out the areas where sounds and sightings have been previously reported. It is interesting to note (although auto suggestion could not be ruled out at this stage) that another guest reported a dark figure making it's way across the stone circle. Two of the group also refused to make their way along the small tunnel leading to the basement level, in keeping with what has been previously reported by staff from the hotel. Sadly Stuart did not witness the figure himself, nor did he hear the metal on metal sound experienced during the initial P.R.O. investigation. This however only strengthens this previous experience as he did his best to spend a large amount of time in this area, listening carefully and trying to rationally explain what they had both heard.

For many when it was time to call it a night they wanted to carry on and didn't feel like going home which seemed to show that everyone enjoyed the night in question and would say that almost everyone had a strange experience that they could not explain. Many photos were taken on the night with some very interesting images and also video footage, these are in the process of being analysed so hopefully just maybe we may have caught something from beyond the grave!?

Our thanks go out to all at Castle Camelot Hotel, Mr & Mrs Mappin, Mr Ted Stourton and Marek for allowing us to investigate this wonderful place and of course our guests!

REPORTS FROM PARTICIPANTS

ONE:

Room 201

4 spirits picked up on by most of team through dowsing and pendulums.

· Elizabeth, died 1855, aged 78, aware of other spirits, over by the bedroom window and the wardrobe. The temperature was an even 22°C in the room, yet the temperature changed by the toilets by 5 degrees.
· 1 female spirit called Marjory, 32 years old, died or came to the castle in 1911.
· 1 spirit 18 years old, died natural causes, could only get the letter G. Erica was touched on the head and the temperature around Erica was different as the room was very warm. We got pictures of orbs or something and there was a very loud clank, which every one heard on the radiator.
· Maggie picked up on another spirit, this spirit wasn't born in Cornwall and was elderly. She kept saying she'd worked in the hotel and lived in a "barrot" house. She knows of a tunnel that goes from the hotel to "barrot".
· We then picked up on a male, 41 years old, died in 1744 of natural causes and slept at "barrot" house on ground floor on the left (overlooks castle) Karen kept feeling dizzy and sick time. Erica kept being touched on her arm and chest and the temperature around her was cooler.

Room 212

Karen picked up on 6 spirits (4 females 2 males) in the room, the room feels busy. Carl picked up on 5 spirits

· Female by wardrobe, used to work here and died aged 27 of natural causes - a heart attack. The first letter of her name was E and we then picked up on Elizabeth but she was known as Liz. She had been a chambermaid and she had another job as a waitress. She died in 1710 was working when she had a heart attack and died on the spot. She had lived in the area.
· We then discovered there were 2 Elizabeths in the room. The second Elizabeth was 24 and had died in 1946. She had caught her foot on a rusty spike and died of lock jaw (tetanus). She died an agonising death she was visiting someone aged 24 with the surname of Rowe.
· Carl picked up on a female aged 67. Who died of natural causes in 1852 He got the name Jennifer Fekker. Carl felt as if he had been touched on the face.
· Carl's throat was then affected by a male presence aged 46 years old. The first letter of his name was G.
· Jackie got 2 girls who died young (24 years' old) both worked in the kitchen.
· She also picked up on George who had a problem with his throat (could be what Carl picked up on earlier?).

Dance room (bar lounge)

The temperature kept fluctuating and we picked up the spirit of Lillian (we met her last time with P.R.O.). There were 4 spirits, including Lillian.
· Lillian apparently remembered us from last time.
· Laura and Carl picked up on male spirit called Ivan Jefferys who was married to Lillian in 1765 aged 55. He worked here (they both did).
· We then did some table tipping in this room and got some very good results. We started asking for Lillian or Ivan to come forward to the table and see if they could move the table. I'm not sure who came through first but I'm also sure it wasn't them, as the atmosphere didn't feel right (felt heavy). I've had feelings where I've felt unwell but not like this I'm not prone to fainting at all but I came very close to it. I felt very light headed; dizzy to the point that Carl had to put a chair behind me. I felt very sick and started swaying and my hands which where on the table looked swollen and purple as if the circulation wasn't getting through. At this point the table moved towards me and then the atmosphere changed again and the room felt lighter. A lady spirit started to come through her name was Letite, she's related to one member of the group and she used to own the hotel She was 85 years old. Every time the person in question asked a question the table moved, sometimes just a bit and sometimes quite a distance. We started down the very bottom end of the room and ended up ¾ of the way up the room (we were all standing hands lightly touching the table and feet not touching the table at all). Carl was filming it all the time and keeping an eye on our feet and hands. Also we took it in turns to take hands off the table (sometimes 2 at a time) that was magical and very emotional for one team member

Main dinning room

3 spirits:
· Lillian again being one of them. she was over by the fire place.
· 1 male spirit he told us he was the man who built the hotel and he killed himself because he thought hotel was not built soundly enough and he thought it would fall down, he also built another hotel.

What a fantastic evening, a lovely meal (I will be going for a meal there again) lovely friendly people thanks to Ian, Will, Stu and Kevin. See you soon!

TWO:

ROOM 212:

1 - The temperature went from around the 19 degree mark and steadily kept falling until it reached about 13 degrees which we all thought was a bit strange

2 - Something kept banging on the window, now we thought at first it could have been the wind but the wind was constant and therefore the window would have kept banging on a regular basis but the bangs were totally random.

3 - Pesquali who likes the dowsing and in my opinion is quite good at it, had a go in this room and found out that there was a couple in the room who were married & that the man didn't know he was dead. Obviously as usual we didn't know anything prior to entering the room but later found out that what she found out was exactly the same as what other people had found.

4 - When we finished in this room we left one of our night vision cameras in there on record and went for our break, on the way back from the break me and Pesquali walked up to the second floor and went round turning off all the lights, Pesquali then needed the toilet and made me wait outside as she was a bit scared. When she exited the toilet we did a lap around the floor in the dark and when we got back to the toilets we heard a bang in one of the toilets and what sounded like conversation, we couldn't make out what was being said but we definitely heard voices

5 - The following day we watched back the videos we had made and this is the crazy part. We walked out of the room leaving the camera rolling (on our break as stated above) and about 5 seconds after we left orbs were flashing all over the place. These are 100% not dust as the way they move is totally strange, they are zooming up & down & back up again and from side to side its crazy. Also……and here is the biggie…….the camera jolts to the left, not a major turn of the camera but when you watch closely it does jerk to the left…….we couldn't believe our eyes.

Downstairs Bar/Piano Room:

1 - Not much really happened in this area other than me picking up that there were 4 spirits in the piano room area via the dowsing rods. Dave from the PRO, also picked up 5 spirits in this area which was most strange.

2 - Me & Stuart were picking up some strange spirits in the darkened side of the bar area, I was picking up a male & a female and they seemed to be moving around quite a bit.

Room 220

1 - Cooky picked up a fantastic orb on camera in this room, one second one picture was blank and the next picture, probably about 2-3 seconds later, had a massive orb above the bed.

2 - Staying in the bed area, whilst I was filming with the night vision camera whenever I pointed it towards the bed orbs kept flying past & disappearing, as usual everyone was still and they were moving in a manner that to me dust wouldn't move.

3 - Another amazing event came next; we started calling out to the see if any spirits were around and as soon as we did a fairly audible banging happened on one of the walls. The weird thing is that we kept calling out asking it to make the sound again and it did. In the end we asked if he/she wanted us to get out and if so to bang once, with that came one bang, we checked 2 more times by asking the same question and sure enough each time we asked in return we got a bang and that's when we left………quickly hee hee.

That is pretty much it from our group, hopefully we will get to go there again sometime as it really was a great night.

Again cheers for a wicked night oh and everyone wanted me to say thanks for letting us have near enough our own little group, it was much appreciated and hopefully we will be able to carry that on.

Take it easy and see you soon.

THREE:
Room 201
Dowsing revealed one female name of Marjory aged 32 died of natural causes in 1911, no further information.
11 20 Cold breaths on my neck, fluctuating temperatures, Maggie picked up on a lady who used to use the tunnels and had been to Barras house.
Erica used her pendulum and picked up on a young female who died aged 18 of natural causes her name began Gar… but could get no more.
We had lots of orbs on request in this room and they were especially large ones. I asked for them to show around Maggie and that's what they did.

Room 212
Dowsing revealed by myself, name of female Elizabeth Roe she died aged 24 in 1946. She had an accident and fell onto some rusty spikes she died as a result of the lockjaw that followed now better known as tetanus, she told me her death was agonising, and that she was a visitor to the castle in life.
12 25
Something started to affect Carl's throat, he dowsed a male spirit who wanted to communicate through Carl his name began with a G and Carl thought it was George and that George had a serious throat problem.
12 45
Quick séance, orbs on request from the centre of the group. Karen had her trousers tugged.
12 50
Glass divination, the glass moved around freely, everyone removed fingers at different times and the glass still moved, no information was given though.

The Dance room
We had a lot of temperature changes in this room, in a widespread area but it was a very large open space, having said that some people reported cold draughts or breaths on request and Stuart reported a cold breeze in the exact same spot that I had asked for one to be felt.
Five spirit presences were found upon dowsing by Karen and Carl and one by myself who's name was Edna, the names Ivan and Lillian were given , no other specific detail was gathered as far as I was aware.
We decided to try table tipping, and got some dramatic results, we had a fair amount of movement
With the table rocking and then slight movements, we asked for no direction.
Then Jackie joined us and the table rocked like mad, we started to ask it to move in certain ways and it did, we all periodically removed our hands, and the table still swung about, Jackie asked if it was her Nan to move it to the left, it did so very quickly, at this point Stuart had popped down for something, he stayed to watch the table moving and checked that no one was using their feet or legs to push the table. Jackie's Nan was called Lettie and she had died 17 years ago, Jackie asked her Nan various questions and the table seemed to respond, Karen had a severe dizzy spell and almost passed out. The other group were waiting to come downstairs so sadly we had to stop, we felt we could have got a lot more from this and hopefully we can try it again at some point.

I made a point of trying to push the table alone and could not move it and the more I tried the more my fingers slithered over the top, it was a shinny slippery surface to the table and I felt no one single person could be pushing the table, if two or three people were in collusion it could probably be done, I truly believe that no one in our group would do that.

3 30 The dining room
Glass divination was done in this room, Karen Barbara and Maggie were getting results, while I was taking pictures and videoing, as on the previous visit I gained nothing from this room. Though I have to say they have done a spectacular job on the refurbishment it looks great.

I did a lone vigil in the ladies toilets, only one orb was caught, the outer door was wide open, I went to the loo, no one had come in as I would have heard them and all the lights were out, when I came out the outer door was pushed to, it was a stiff door to close and I thought it was very odd, upon talking to small group about what had happened another lady said the exact same thing had happened to her.

Over all it was another great night at Camelot, the most unusual thing I thought was the size of the orbs I have never seen them so big, I compared them with previous film footage of nights at the castle and they were definitely huge this time. Many thanks to everyone who so patiently put up with us, and also thanks for a great meal.
