Trigger (Control) Objects

These are objects placed at relevant places in the hope that they may be moved by some unexplained source. The usual procedure is to place the object on a piece of (preferably heavy) card and draw around it, noting its exact position and getting witnesses to confirm it. These should be checked at regular intervals and it is advisable to set up a locked off camera to ensure there is no tampering. It is also worthwhile making sure that no outside influences could cause a natural movement (e.g. traffic vibrations, a dance studio next door, etc!). Make sure the object cannot be disturbed, preferably in a very secure area, but if not possible then warn everyone where they are.

We also recommend using a trigger object that may have an association with the location. For example if the reported activity is associated with a child, toys from the period concerned may be the best items. One of the most common trigger objects is money (preferably dating to the time of the apparent ghost), money is an item that most human beings would show an interest in and presuming that spirits are former living persons - the interest they might show is obvious!
